A little Pika love

In November, Jason and I make a quick one day trip into Yosemite when we were praying about this new job possibility (he hadn't even sent his resume in yet) and we went into the Visitor Center and were so excited to see this display...complete with a Pika (we just thought it was our daughter's silly nickname! We had no idea it was an animal & this time we were able to get a picture with our Pika posing in front of this endangered animal! Yet another reason to try to not use plastic bags, recycle, reduce & reuse...we want her to grow up and be able to see a Pika (the animal)!

Here's what the sign says: If climate continues to wam, the pika might run out of cool mountain habitat. Pikas need to get out of the sun periodically to cool down, or they risk lethal overheating. These small mammals live in rock piles at higher elevations. They gather plants for winter food in nearby areas, frequently returning to the shade of the rocks. As the Earth's temperature warms, they will have to spend more time in the rock piles cooling down. If they spend too much time cooling down, they won't be able to harvest enough food to survive the winter.

So please choose to do something today (it can even be small) to help save our world & the Pika!
& now you've had your does of random information for the day too!

For those of you who are wondering why I refer to our precious daughter as Pika?

Reason: it's the nickname she gave herself (actually for a long time it was the only name she would call herself!) It doesn't sound a lot like the name we gave her, but you know what? It fits her!
